The fourth of five major pedigree Aberdeen-Angus Spring sales at Carrick-On-Shannon took place over the weekend. Overall, the sale produced an extremely healthy 80% clearance rate at an average price of €2250 which was down slightly on previous years. There was no pre-sale show on this occasion, which limited opportunities for photographs on the day; however, make sure to visit the Irish Aberdeen-Angus Association social media channels for all the best video highlights from the sale.

Gerry & Helen Reynolds, Bunlahy, Ballinalee, Co. Longford topped the day’s trade, selling the 14 month old Bunlahy Paudie for €4500. This one is sired by the well-known AI bull, Bunlahy John G and is out of the homebred Bunlahy Petrina K250. This one boasted a five star terminal breeding index and attracted significant interest in the sales ring.

Frank & Margaret McKiernan, Drumcrow, Corlismore, Co. Cavan sold Drumcrow Panama T680 for €3150. This bull was born in February 2017 and is sired by the homebred Drumcrow Joker and is out Drumcrow Princess Lima N533 who is a daughter of Netherton Mr Brailian E377. This bull carried a double five star index for both terminal and replacement traits as well as a calving ease figure below the official breed average.

Local breeder, Ernest Bohan, Drumkielvey, Mohill, Co. Leitrim took home €3000 for his 15 month old bull, Drumkielvey Match Box T170. This one is sired by the famed three-time All-Ireland Aberdeen-Angus champion, Rosemead Karona J957 and also had a five star terminal and replacement breeding index.

Michael Sheahan, Luddenmore, Grange, Kilmallock, Co. Limerick topped a very small female offering, selling the in-calf heifer, Luddenmore Ebony S288 for €2100. This 22 month old heifer is a daughter of Friarstown Praire Cloud N250 and is out of the Ebony family at Luddenmore which descends from the successful brood cow, Hoff Ebony SC3330991.

The fifth and final sale of pedigree Aberdeen-Angus bulls and heifers takes place in Carrick-On-Shannon on Saturday, June 9th.
