It was at this point last year that the UK experienced the full effects of the Beast from the East, with snowy and wintery conditions causing mayhem around all parts of the UK. As we will now be moving into Spring, we will be hoping that this year we can expect to see drier and warmer weather! It’s been very busy here at the Society, with Council meetings taking place which we look forward to sharing you updates from. Take a look at what’s been happening in and around the Society over the last 14 days!

News Roundup

The Society hosted a prize-giving ceremony after the recent Stirling Bull Sales to celebrate the deserving trophy winners of 2018. The President’s Awards were awarded to Neil Massie and Willie Robertson - a huge congratulations to both, greatly deserved! You can see the full list of prize winners in the news section of the website.

Then PENWAC Club held their annual AGM on Sunday 3rd March at The Best Western Garstang, Country Hotel & Golf Club. The Club had an excellent meeting, with herd visits being planned in the summer, and there was also a presentation where members received their trophies from the 2018 Herd Competition.

The eagerly anticipated YDP Senior Conference 2019 took place over the course of the weekend of the 22nd of March 2019. The was held in Nantwich on the outskirts of Cheshire, where the delegates congregated at Cheerbrook Farm Shop and Café which is owned and run by Andrew Shufflebotham and his wife Sarah. An insightful and interesting experience was had by all – thank you to all involved!

The second of five Spring sales at Carrick-On-Shannon, Co Leitrim saw a clearance rate of 75% recorded in the sales ring (up from just over 50% at the same sale last year) with steady and sustained interest from buyers. The top price of the day was by Drummullian Paul 792 exhibited by Padraig McGrath, Elphin, Co. Roscommon who sold for €3000.

Angela McGregor and Ken Howie attended an event at Costco this week where they had a Society stand and were able speak to the catering trade about our breed and products, with individual members also invited by Costco. The Society was there to support Costco and AK Stoddart in providing the backup/provenance to what they are doing, and it was most enjoyable to chat with existing and potential customers.

We are in the process of pulling together a spring newsletter to be distributed to all members. This will provide detailed information from the latest Council meetings, along with some great articles and information related to YDP, health and more. Make sure to look out for this arriving in the first couple of weeks of April.

To keep up with all other news from the Society as well as all the latest updates from shows, sales and other events, just head over to the appropriate sections on our website.
