The industry leading Aberdeen-Angus Youth Development Programme look forward to beginning its first series of summer workshops over the UK & Ireland in the coming weeks. The recently re-structured team of co-ordinators is headed up by Tina Russell (National YDP co-ordingator) with Niall Lynch (Irish YDP co-ordinator) taking on the task of organising the Irish leg of the summer youth development schedule.

The first of four workshops to be held in Ireland for 2019 takes place on the farm of John & Sean McEnroe, Liss, Oldcastle, Co Meath on Saturday, June 29th with further workshops taking place on the farms of Mack Crowe, Broomstreet, Mohill, Co Leitrim (Friday, July 26th), Shane Healy, Bengour West, Newcestown, Bandon, Co Cork (Saturday, July 27th) and John & Sandra Blackburn, Killaney, 205 Aughafad Road, Clogher, Co Tyrone, NI (Saturday, August 10th).

All four workshops will feature a distinguished team of trainers, judges and instructors at each venue with loads of practical and hands on opportunities for the next generation of young beef farmers (aged 8 - 24 years) to learn about showmanship, cattle judging, cattle dressing, ringcraft as well as the practical, technical and theoretical skills of cattle nutrition, management and breeding. The programme is also open to young people involved in other cattle breeds and young people with no prior experience of cattle are most welcome to attend on the day too. The four workshops will also be the only chance for young Irish breeders to attempt to qualify for the 2019 Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society YDP Finals and as the finals take place in Ireland this year, there is added incentive for all young people to attend and participate at the workshops.
